Objectives

Witches’ Broom disease continues to devastate the cocoa plantations in South America.. In order to develop realistic control measures, it is important to understand the variability of the causative fungus, Crinipellis perniciosa. The project will investigate isolates of this fungus, looking for information on genetic variability, evolutionary history and variability over time. The range of strains will be identified and made available for future testing of the performance of control strategies.
