CRUK's aim is to support research which will generate the information and tools needed to improve cocoa production and quality assurance.
Our first research project, initiatedin 199?, aimed to use new DNA fingerprinting technology to address one of the oldest problems facing plant breeders: how to be sure that the right starting material is used in their breeding programmes. Since then we have initiated two further projects focussed on one of the most serious diseases affecting cocoa: Witches' Broom Disease.
We hope to continue to fund research projects which will use innovation to make a real impact in the cocoa community, capitalising on the expertise available in the UK and our links to reasearch activities in producing countries.
